Visiting to the former Australian military base at Nui Dat, the Long Tan Cross and Long Phuoc Tunnels. Joining this tour, you would have a chance to gather and look back on one of the most well-known Australian engagements of the Vietnam War – the Battle of Long Tan (18th August 1966). Especially, the Long Tan battle field has become the memorial site which annually welcomes a large number of Australia veterans.
ITINERARY:
- 8:30 AM, our bus and good experience tour guide will pick you up at you hotel departing to Long Tan Commune in Dat Do District, Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province after three-hour drive.
- The first stop on this historic tour is the former site of Australia’s Nui Dat Task Force Base (Nui Dat SAS Hill). The occupation of Nui Dat required the removal of all inhabitants from within a 4 kilometer radius of the base. Therefore the people of Long Tan and Long Phuoc villages were forcibly resettled. Little remains of this military camp today except the columns of the main gate. The former runway is now a street in the local village, and the old heliport becomes a soccer field now.
- Afterward, we drive pass the location of Horseshoe FSB (access is not permitted due to the continued presence of land mines) to the Discourtesy Rubber Plantation. Visit focal point for remembrance to commemorate between the Australian and Vietnamese soldiers named Long Tan Cross Monument. Who sacrificed their lives during the war before continuing on to the Long Phuoc Tunnels. These tunnels were dug by the Viet Minh and Viet Cong for fighting and sheltering. Like other tunnels systems found in Vietnam, the Long Phuoc Tunnels include meeting areas, first aid stations, and fighting pits.
